four bodies have been found on Gilgo Beach and Cedar beach out on Long Island

Three bodies were found on one of Long Island's most pristine coastal islands on Monday - two days after cops found a human skeleton in the same area, police said.

The four bodies were found between Gilgo Beach and Cedar Beach, on a barrier island that separates the Great South Bay from the Atlantic Ocean.

The bodies were found in heavy brush near Ocean Parkway, a highway that connects the two beaches.

The first discovery was made about 2:45 p.m. Saturday by Suffolk Police Officer John Mallia, who was training a police dog named Blue for cadaver searches, police said.

Detective Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky, who heads the Suffolk Police homicide squad, said the area was selected for the training exercise because a missing person was last seen in that vicinity, Newsday reported.

Shonnan Gilbert, 24, a prostitute from Jersey City, N.J., met a john on Craigslist and arranged a rendezvous on nearby Fire Island in May, Pelkofsky told the paper. It was the last time she was seen alive.

Follow-up investigations on Monday turned up three more bodies, police said. None of the bodies have been identified, and police have not said whether the individuals were murdered.

Police ask anyone with information to contact the Suffolk Police Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or call the department's Crime Stoppers confidential tipline at 800-220-TIPS.

Side note....I heard on the news that 2 of the bodies appear to be men!
