Kate Spade Resort 2012

The ever-adventurous Kate Spade gal is off and running again for resort, and this time, according to creative director Deborah Lloyd, she’s evoking the “effortless chic” of the French channeled through an American studying the arts in Paris, i.e., a collegiate all-American sportswear combined with the classic style of Sixties French icons such as Juliette Greco and a young Catherine Deneuve.

From one temple to another. A Buddhist monk lies on his futon in his Tokyo pied-a-terre, surrounded by his Comme des Garcons collection. Once a month, religiously, the monk trades his robes for a head to toe Comme des Garcons outfit, leaves the temple and heads for Tokyo to pick up a few more pieces and visit his sanctuary. Strangely, he sees the designs as having a religious quality. His sister, a former delinquent, apparently reformed when she found Garcon.

derek lam really impressed me this resort season. in my opinion, he’s played it safe up until now with regard to his shapes and patterns, but resort 2012 exhibited color-blocking, brightly-embroidered linens and tribal influence, which makes sense since the collection was wholly inspired by lam’s recent trip to phuket and bhutan.

overall, the clothing showed a deep respect for the cities’ cultures. a+ work, mr. lam.

Violet Baudelaire

Hey, that rhymes. Ever read Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events? Well, Violet is one of the main characters and along with her brother and infant sister, she deals with, well, a lot of unfortunate events. There are leeches, evil troupes of actors, devilish counts and friendly deadly vipers. Yeah, it’s pretty much like working at a fashionable fashion magazine of fashions (badumpshhhhh, kidding). Violet’s main claim to fame is that she is an inventor and can quickly solve problems. Anyway, she’s got a Wednesday Addams meets Elizabeth Bennet vibe, which is cool—and spot on for the fall collections.

1. Well, this is a fucking unfortunate event we’re in.

Dress & tights by Marc Jacobs, coat by Marni, shoes by Lanvin

normally, i would choose a few lower-priced items in fast fashion stores right now that can be used to create an outfit inspired by the adam resort 2012 looks, but considering how affordable the designer is to begin with, i couldn’t possibly. i am a big fan of this collection, of its pale pinks, dove grays and splashes of cobalt.

and did you know that the adam is on tumblr? what are you waiting for? #instafollow
