Cup o' Shiraz

I had a long and exhausting weekend, especially Saturday. Luckily for moi, Matt brings me coffee in bed every single morning. Yes, I am serious. It is divine.

Anyway, on Sunday after I lounged in bed in the sunspot and purred like a spoiled little kitten and sipped my coffee like a divine little princess, I headed downstairs for a refill. I filled my mug to the brim. Wait. What is that smell? Holy crap. I filled my mug with Shiraz! No lie. I actually poured it all the way to the top before I noticed. Hee hee.  Matt did not think it was half as funny as I did. Of course her highness did not have her camera, so here is a re-enactment. Oh,  and I may or may not have had a few sips this morning (just since the bottle was out for the photo shoot).

Well, all of that nonsense got me thinking about this new British product I saw the other day that is getting a lot of press, both bad and good.

I don't see how anyone in their right mind could say anything bad about this. It is genius I tell ya.

In my opinion, the Brits should stick to what they know. When I think "British," I think alcohol consumption, not oil exploration. Am I right?

I also got to thinking (can you see the smoke?) about combining my accidental Shiraz coffee idea with the British travel wine glasses.

Why not just throw the whole bottle in something like this.

Just an idea.

Southern Fried Satuday

I bought a 4-pack of canned biscuits a week or so ago. Turns out I do not like canned biscuits (or these particular biscuits at least).

This morning when I saw them in the fridge, I thought of the doughnuts that my dad used to make using our beloved Fry Daddy and canned biscuits. For those of you who don't know, the Fry Daddy is a giant bucket of grease that you store with a lid and then plug in when you want something deep fried. Every decent Southern momma has both the Daddy and the Fry Baby.

No, I do not own a Fry Daddy or a Fry Baby. But I did manage to make these.

 YUM!

I wish you could have been here to have one of these and a cup of coffee with me.

PS: I glazed these. They are not dripping in grease : )

Hope you are having a great weekend.

Reflections on Marriage: Coffee Cup Edition

In all relationships, not just marriage, there are unspoken "rules."  Well I broke the "don't use my coffee cup" rule last night and I knew better. Marriage is about sharing your life with another.  Married people usually share money, kids, a home, a name and their worldly possessions.   In this house, there is one thing that absolutely not shared:  the coffee mug

Let me explain. I simply wanted a cup of tea.  After the tea kettle started  screeching, I reached into the cupboard and pulled out the first cup I touched.  It was Matt's coffee mug.

 This one.

I knew I should have just put it back and got another, and trust me when I tell you that  there is no cup/mug shortage in our house and I am aware that would have been the considerate thing to do.  However, I did not want to expend the energy it would take to lift my arm and put the mug back in the cabinet.

So anyway, I thought I would just casually set the cup on the coffee table and he would not notice right?

He did notice.  He asked "umm, what are you doing?"

Me:  "about what?"

Him:  "why are you using that cup?"

Me: "oh I did not notice I was using your cup."

Him:  "did you notice there are scratches on the bottom, inside the cup."

Me: "that is caused by you stirring your creamer."

Him: "I don't use a spoon"

Me:  "Hey, is this a new 30 Rock or a repeat?"

Oh well. This is a classic example of the mundane things that you have to consider in a relationship: Respect each others' stuff.  R-E-S-P-E-C-T.  No big deal, right?

Of course not. However, it would be a monumental deal, if he ever used this mug.

Hands off pal.

He is too considerate to do such a thing.

Chase has his own mug as well, but he is not as addicted committed  to coffee as we are,  and probably wouldn't care if anyone used his mug for a cup o' tea.

Chase's mug

Chase went to a hippy kindergarten in Boulder.  His class put on a Rainforest Production in which he portrayed a Tony-worthy tree frog.  It was seriously all we talked about for weeks.

There he is left of the baboon?

"Red-eyed tree frog" became a code word we used for years. That explains his mug. What is my point?  Well, duh,  that my son was a cute kindergartner. Oh and whoever said "don't sweat the small stuff" has, obviously,  never shared a house with another human being.
