Crazy doesn't take a Holiday

I know it is not quite the 4th of July, but I like to start the party early.  Is it ok to have a mojito at 9am? I kid. I am only having a Coor's Light. I am getting ready for the big holiday in a big way. We are having company and my little community's population explodes over this big weekend.  It is insane! If I don't come back by Tuesday, call the cops because that means my pontoon adventure went south.

The 4th (of course) is the grand Pooh-Bah of summer, but there are so many events (most FREE) over the course of the season that sometimes it is hard to remember that you are not on permanent vacation.

This is what we have been up to:

FRISCO BBQ CHALLENGE: 35,000 attend!

Above is our local OCD guy. He travels around our entire county either on foot or via our free bus system. He avoids breaking his mama's back by stepping over the cracks. Matt and I saw him on the interstate the other day.

Me:  Holy crap! What is OCD doing on the interstate? He is going to get killed.
Matt: He is on vacation.
Me: ?????
Matt: No cracks on the highway. He just wanted a nice relaxing walk.
Me: You are demented.

We have also been hiking (nothing too crazy because of my ankle). These shots are from Cataract Lake.

And dont forget the TIKI Bar. I love me some TIKI action.

This is my friend Elizabeth. She had her car worked on that day. She invited the mechanic to come along (the guy next to her). She is friendly like that.

Colleen did not bring her mechanic.

I LIVE IN PARADISE (in the summer).

HOPE YOU HAVE A SPECTACULAR 4th of JULY!!!!!

I am not saying I have a Photographic Memory (I am just sayin')

I was at the good old FIRC a few months ago and they had a pile of magazines for free. One magazine was Metropolitan Home May 2009. The homes featured were pretty much amazing and the polar opposite of my "rustic" home.

While perusing the magazine, I came upon this picture of a bathroom that belonged to the featured architects/homeowners' sons.

source: Metropolitan Home

For some reason the picture sent a chill through my body. I had no idea why. I just stared at it for a while but couldn't figure out why I had that reaction to the photograph.

Flash forward to yesterday. I am sitting on my porch looking through the magazine again and when I came across the picture, it hit me. I know where I had seen the bathroom before.

Do you remember the movie THE SHINING? Holy crap. Remember this scene?

Uncanny right? That movie was made in 1980.

Apparently, turning to horror movies for bathroom design inspiration is common. While searching google images to find the Shining bathroom, I found this picture.

I especially like the added blood-red paint detail.

I love it so much I am going to see if Matt will let me remodel our bathroom.

Another article in Metropolitan Home May 2009 featured a stunning Boston home owned by these two ladies.

source: Metropolitan Home

Notice anything weird? No, I am not referring to the fact that they are two chicks.  I am talking about (that in my opinion) they look like clones.

Damn I am hot! I need to find my clone so I can marry her.

Well what do I know? All white people pretty much look alike to me. Except for Matt. I can usually pick him out in a crowd. Well, unless I have had a few cocktails and then I might end up walking up to any random blue-eyed guy between the age of 30-60 and demanding that he buy me chicken wings and a chardonnay. Not that that has ever happened. I am just saying it could.

Cup o' Shiraz

I had a long and exhausting weekend, especially Saturday. Luckily for moi, Matt brings me coffee in bed every single morning. Yes, I am serious. It is divine.

Anyway, on Sunday after I lounged in bed in the sunspot and purred like a spoiled little kitten and sipped my coffee like a divine little princess, I headed downstairs for a refill. I filled my mug to the brim. Wait. What is that smell? Holy crap. I filled my mug with Shiraz! No lie. I actually poured it all the way to the top before I noticed. Hee hee.  Matt did not think it was half as funny as I did. Of course her highness did not have her camera, so here is a re-enactment. Oh,  and I may or may not have had a few sips this morning (just since the bottle was out for the photo shoot).

Well, all of that nonsense got me thinking about this new British product I saw the other day that is getting a lot of press, both bad and good.

I don't see how anyone in their right mind could say anything bad about this. It is genius I tell ya.

In my opinion, the Brits should stick to what they know. When I think "British," I think alcohol consumption, not oil exploration. Am I right?

I also got to thinking (can you see the smoke?) about combining my accidental Shiraz coffee idea with the British travel wine glasses.

Why not just throw the whole bottle in something like this.

Just an idea.

Wait. Is this Opposite Day?

I got up this morning and started my usual check my e-mail, drink some coffee, and read the news (and by "news," I mean "TMZ" and "Newser") routine. I am scanning the headlines and I see this hard-hitting report.

Lindsay Lohan was not drinking alcohol when her SCRAM bracelet went off last week.
I know, right? Shocking. She cleared a pee test. What the? I honestly thought BP would plug up the gusher in the gulf before I read about Lindsay's night of sobriety. This news has rattled me so much that I, myself, needed a shot of whiskey in my coffee. Oh, and do you follow her on Twitter? I know it is pathetic, but I do. She is crazy. I do like me some crazy. Only crazy at a distance, mind you. Not actually In My Life crazy. Thank Xenu** that my sister moved back to Texas. Oh wait, I digress.

** since it is opposite day, I thought I would be a Scientologist. For those that don't know, Xenu is the God  that started all the inter-galactic nonsense the Scientologists pretend have to deal with . You know I love cults and this is my chance to be in one for a day without having to be mean to my mom for the rest of my life.

Well if that was not enough of a shock to my system (having one of those moments where your core beliefs are shaken), something much more monumental happened. Then next headline almost made me faint. Holy crap!!!!!! It has happened. It must be a signal of the end of days.  Sarah Palin has actually said something that I totally agree with.   Help me Xenu.**  Save me from myself!

Yes,  I know this is the "porno Palin". As a matter of principle, I cant post a real picture. Plus I am trying to attract more male blog readers.

Sarah Palin has stated that she does not think that smoking weed is a big deal.  Did I read that right? Girl has some sense after all. Yeah for Sarah! Now don't go around thinking that I am a pot-head. I can't stand smoking weed. If you think I am paranoid right now, just give me a few puffs of mary-jane and I curl up in the fetal waiting for Xenu to take me away. It is not pretty. But I live in Colorado and it is sooooo not a big deal around here (oh yeah it is legal, duh).  Plus,  I live in the mountains where everyone and their grandma smokes weed and I think it is a pretty mellow and cool place to live.  I think I hear the phrase "it's all good" about 20 times a day. So to me, it is all good.

That is it for opposite day. I have got to go do some work. Boo. I was not planning on posting this morning, but I felt compelled.

Oh, and in honor of Sarah Palin not making me want to puke today, here is a picture of me with her hairdo photoshopped on my head.

You are welcome!

Thrift Store Book Review: The Honk and Holler Opening Soon

Okay,  I did not technically get this book at the thrift store. But that is not for lack of trying.  You may remember how I went searching the thrift for this book (for my book club) but ended up learning how to make my own lace panties instead. I could never find the damn book but I wound up checking it out at the library which is cheaper than the thrift so I am categorizing this as a "thrift store book review." You can file a complaint with management (aka Murphy) if you have a problem with that.

Of course I waited until two days before our meeting to even get the book, but I finished it. So there.

This is the book:

The book was just awwright dawg.

Pitchy. I don't even know what that means but I am guessing it applies here.

Incidentally, I  know the author, Billie Letts, in real life by a random twist of events. When I mentioned that I had met Ms. Letts and then later mentioned that I know the author of the next book we are reading, I think my club thought I might be a name dropper.  Whateva. So anyway, the other day Oprah and I were at the mall (haha just kidding. I was with Tyra).

Back to the book. The story revolves around a small town cafe in rural Oklahoma in 1985. A whole cast of characters come together as one:  Asian, Native American, Vietnam vet, crippled dog, crippled guy, missing thumb guy, town bully, oxygen tank lady, African American fundamentalist, country singer, mentally ill, gossip. All served up with a piece of pie.  Kumbaya.

The snacks were spicier.

The Q &A was insightful though.

Q:  Which character did you most identify with and why?

A:  The guy in the wheelchair who was afraid to leave the cafe.  I can go a week without leaving my house. Or maybe the guy with the missing thumbs? No, probably the town ho with the heart of gold. Oh wait there was not one of those? Never mind.

Meanwhile, Matt has been working long hours so I made a casserole for his dining pleasure while I was impressing the gals at the book club with my thoughtful analysis. By the way, is there a rule that a casserole must contain at least 2 cans of cream of mushroom (celery, chicken) soup?

I just sorta made this recipe up using the standard soup and cheese.  Can't go wrong with that duo. Throw in some filler and crumble some leftover taco shells on top and call it good.

 Sopa Crema y Queso

I just made that name up but that could be the name for any casserole.  Que Bueno!!

Our next book is about a mermaid or something. I think it is kind of like Twilight but under the sea. They kept saying "easy read" and I think they may have been talking about me but they have meant the book. I had a couple of glasses wine so who knows?  I will be sure and do another book/casserole review next month. Maybe I will start an entire series called "Book and Casserole Review"  I may be on to something people. Stay tuned.

Channel Panel 2010

I like to read this blog called "My Sister's Farmhouse." Rechelle, the blogger, has a strong disdain for another blogger known as "The  Pioneer Woman"  a/k/a Ree Drumond.  If you do not know already, Ree is a mega blogger/rancher's wife. She has a huge following, her own cookbook and I recently saw her on the Today show. Well, Rechelle has done an entire post on how Ree has changed her sidebar bio something like five times and it has morphed as she has gained a huge right-wing, homeschooling fan base. You can read that post here.

Rechelle claims that in the beginning, Ree claimed to channel Scarlett O'Hara, Ethel Merman and Sylvia Plath, but as it stands today, she channels Lucille Ball and Ethel Merman. Why is Rechelle so bugged by all of this and why do I find it so damn funny? Who knows.

Anway, all of that nonsense really has me pondering the big questions in life. You know, like who do I "channel" via my blog?  I am certainly not going to list them on my sidebar for fear I might change my mind and Rechelle will tell the entire internet that I am a phony. But, I have put together a good photo representation of who I think I "channel" that I would like to present to you here today.

DISCLAIMER: These are not to be taken literally, of course. For example, the first one is Martha Stewart. While I am a talented entertainer, decorator, chef, and crafter and I do carry a glue gun in my purse,  I have not been convicted of securities fraud, so I don't really think we are exactly alike, okay?

There you have it. Oh and about that last one,  Matt always says if you want to get my true personality, "just add red wine."

This Dummy can Photo Edit

I need to go to bed but am playing around with this free photoshop type program.  This is Matt and moi in Cozumel after our crazy cantina crawl with my dad.  We were pretty lit up. Not really, I think I only had one beer that whole trip.  Oh there I go again.  Kidding.  I was hammered.

Whatchu think?  I have mad skillz.  No?

Ain't no stopping me now!
